The Penny Project

Picture

The Penny Project is how we give back...being do-gooders in the community!  Our first contribution was $500 to the First Annual Young Women's National Conference (YWNC), an event dedicated to inspiring all girls to reach their full potential as confident, influential and bold young women.  You can visit the YWNC website for more information or to make a donation.

Our second contribution was to Ronald McDonald House for $280.03. Sounds like an odd amount...but when you're picking up pennies, every last cent matters!  This total was the amount of money Leslie received from the members of a leadership program she attended.  At the same time, her cousin was attending her own leadership program and as part of it, trying to raise $5,000 for the Ronald McDonald House.

Because such an important part of leadership is about connection, Leslie used the money from the members of her leadership group to support her cousin's leadership mission as a sign of connection & support for an important cause. The Penny Project is also a fun way to enjoy the little things in life.  Remember when you were a kid and finding a penny was a big deal?  Well... we still think it is!

To date we've raised over $3,100 in found money & small donations.  We think that proves the best things come in small packages and little things DO make a difference!  It has also provided us with lots of laughs and funny stories.  Check out The Penny Project Website or join us on Facebook to get in on the penny fun!

Fun Penny Project Finds

A vertical penny!  It fell in a sidewalk crack and waited there on its side for someone to find it... and we did!

Photojournalist Laura Pohl followed me around for a few days to see if she could capture the magic of penny finding.  Here's a picture of her taking a picture of me taking a picture of this dollar bill we found in downtown Washington, DC!

Sometimes we find more than pennies... look closely in the dirt and see a coin.  Look closer and see that it isn't a penny at all...it's a really dirty DIME!!

A parking meter next to a grate is otherwise known as a potential GOLD MINE...but only if you have a way to fish the coins out.  Chopsticks do the trick!
